As a Kindergartener, my son is supposed to practice reading and writing a list of sight words. He is not usually very eager to do this and it can be a struggle to get him to practice. When I was trying to think of ways to make this sight word practice more enjoyable for both of us, I remembered practicing spelling words at school by writing them in chocolate syrup. I was pretty sure my son would go for something like that. Since I had a can of whipped cream in the refrigerator, we started with that.
We squirted some whipped cream onto a black plate.
He smoothed the whipped cream with a spoon.
I showed him one sight word at a time and he wrote it in the whipped cream with his finger. The words weren't always that legible, but that wasn't the important part.
My daughter practiced her letters.
We've also tried sight word practice with chocolate syrup and white plates on another day.
I would say both ways were equally successful.
