Alphabet Treasure Hunt for Valentine's Day

This alphabet treasure hunt is easy to put together and a fun way to practice letter recognition. It has a Valentine's Day theme so I chose heart shapes, but you could use any shape.

My kids like letter hunts. We've done them with flashcards and with ice, but this alphabet treasure hunt with a Valentine's Day theme was their favorite.

First I cut out 26 heart shapes and wrote each letter of the alphabet on them.

I laid them out in order, flipped them over, and wrote out a message for the kids on the back. My message said, "I love you so much. Will you be my Valentines? You will each find a surprise waiting for you under your bed." (A few of the hearts were blank.) For older kids, a riddle might be fun instead.

I hid the hearts around the house and their mission was to collect all 26 hearts and lay them out in alphabetical order.

Once they had it, they flipped over each heart and I read them the message.

They're already asking to do it again. (The surprises under the beds didn't hurt.)
