Bear Wants More Activity: Virtual Book Club for Kids

Here's a fun and easy way to combine literacy and art while making the book Bear Wants More come to life. It was simple to put together and works great for practicing retelling skills with kids.

For this month's Virtual Book Club for Kids featuring Karma Wilson, we chose Bear Wants More. When spring comes Bear wakes from his winter hibernation HUNGRY. Grass isn't enough to fill his tummy, so his friends help him find more and more and more food. It's still not enough, but Bear's friends come to the rescue with the perfect solution.

I started by making a bear to feed while we read the book. I used a small shoe box but an empty tissue box would work just as well.  I cut a hole in it and painted it brown before adding eyes, ears, and a nose.

We read the book through once. Before we read it again I set out the bear, small squares of paper, and markers. For each thing the bear ate, we drew it on a scrap of paper and fed it to the bear.

Bear had grass (which my daughter decided would be rainbow grass) ...
