We raided our craft drawer for supplies. These little jack-o'-lanterns are a great way to get creative and use up odds and ends. The basic supplies we used were construction paper, scissors, and glue. I started by making pumpkins from construction paper.
After the kids glued their pumpkins down, we started looking for things that would make good eyes, noses, and mouths.
Paper clips can make great glasses, an upside down heart sticker makes a cute nose, and pipe cleaners work nicely for making a mustache.
We also searched through old magazines to find features for our jack-o'lanterns.
The kids loved how silly the faces turned out.
Best of all, no pumpkin guts.
To extend the jack-o'-lantern fun, a great Halloween book for preschoolers is The Bumpy Little Pumpkin by Margery Cuyler. Little Nell finds the perfect bumpy little pumpkin for Halloween. Her sisters tell her it's too small and ugly to make a good jack-o'-lantern, but with a little help from her friends, Little Nell creates a jack-o'-lantern to be proud of.
These are adorable! I like that you can use just about any craft scraps you have around the house to add a cute face to the pumpkin!
ReplyDeleteOh my word Lorie! Those are too stinkin' cute. I am totally doing these this week. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI'd love for you to come share this at our Pinning for Play link party!
I love the 'stache! Cute, cute.
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! How do you get the bigger craft items (paper clips, buttons, googly eyes) to stick to the pumpkins? The regular glue sticks that I use never hold!
ReplyDeleteWe used liquid glue for those. My kids like to use LOTS of it.
