Water Balloon Letter Learning

I'm always looking for fun ways to get my kids interested in playing with letters and letter sounds. Water balloons are always a hit around here in the summer, so I decided to combine the two.

For this activity, I filled up lots of water balloons.

I scattered the Undersea Alphabet Pool Game Letters that I received from Gummy Lump. You could also use chalk but my kids love these because they come decorated with undersea animals that correspond to the sound of the letter.

We started throwing water balloons at the letter targets. Sometimes the kids yelled out the letter after they hit it (if they didn't know it, I said something like, "You hit the O for Octopus!") Sometimes I gave them a letter to aim for.

I also added some lower case letters to the alphabet balloons with a permanent marker. Their job was to hit the upper case letter with the matching lower case letter balloon.

This was lots of fun and now every time we get out the water balloons, my kids also grab their pool letters.
