Dinosaur & Kitty Valentine Mailboxes


A quick post today to share an easy way I've been incorporating a little more fun literacy practice into our day.  I made both of my preschoolers a Valentine mailbox.  My daughter wanted a kitty and my son wanted a dinosaur. (That is supposed to be a triceratops.  I was hoping he'd ask for something easier like a monster, which is actually what my husband thought it was.)

They are made from boxes with a mouth shape cut out.  I used tissue paper and a mixture of glue and water to make them the color I wanted.  The rest is just construction paper, paper plates, ribbon, and google eyes.

I leave little surprises in there a couple of times a day.  Something simple like a Valentine maze, a Valentine number activity, or heart shapes to cut out.  (You can find lots of printable Valentine activities at Busy Bee Kids Crafts and KidSparkz.)  The kids are always thrilled to find something in their mailbox and sit down to work on it immediately.

      One is a cereal box and one is a gogurt box. Any type of box would work, I think.
