Noah's Ark Craft: Kid's Virtual Book Club

It's virtual book club day for December which means tons of  great ideas for Jan Brett books!

We chose On Noah's Ark for our activity and the kids really liked this story.  The narrator is Noah's granddaughter and there's no mention of why Noah is building the ark.   Instead the story focuses on the feeling of being on the ark and how crowded it was with all the animals.  Simple and full of beautiful and engaging illustrations, this is perfect for preschoolers as well as older readers.

We made a paper plate/ popsicle stick / clothespin Noah's Ark craft to go with the book.  I cut 2 paper plates into an ark shape and my 4 year old painted the bottom of each.  When they dried we stapled them together to form the ark.

Next we made popsicle stick animals.  My original intention was to put the animals inside the ark but I ended up hot glueing clothespins to the back so that they could be clipped onto the ark.

We just used odds and ends from the craft closet to assemble the animals (two of each, of course).

You could also print off or draw some animal pictures and glue those to the clothespins.

The last page of the book shows a rainbow, but there's no mention made of it in the text.  If you wanted to discuss the rainbow, we did a rainbow craft for Noah's Ark too.

I hope you'll also check out our other Jan Brett activities: The Mitten and The Wild Christmas Reindeer.

Did you do a Jan Brett activity this month? Please link it up or share it on the Virtual Book Club for Kids facebook page!
