I love Halloween. We got married right before Halloween and I remember having dreams that I forgot, not some important wedding detail, but that I forgot to put out the Halloween decorations. They are my favorite decor and I think I passed that on to Bryce because he starts asking in the beginning of September to put them out and always picks them out when we go to rummage sales.
I saw this on Pinterest and I knew I wanted to try it with my Sunday School kids. We did a test run at home and I had the kids paint a white paper orange. I liked the texture this gave to the pumpkins, but figured it wouldn't dry in time for Sunday School so I just used colored construction paper.
I chose to go through each step with the kids (as much as you can with 10 kindergartens.) So, for example, I started out by saying, "Cut a large oval or circle from your orange paper for the pumpkin." I also gave them the option to draw the shape on their paper before cutting it out. Some followed my directions (and example) and other chose to do their own thing for parts.

I LOVE how they turned out! I am so amazed that even though they were all given the same supplies and directions, they all look so different. Totally my favorite part. The kids used to have an art teacher that would "fix" everyone's project so each one looked exactly the same. Thankfully she is now retired.
One of our favorite Halloween books is Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins and it would be a perfect book to go with this activity.
These are so cute! My little girl is not quite old enough for this, but it will be so much fun when she is.
ReplyDeleteThese are really cute. I love looking at kids' artwork. We may try this today. : )
ReplyDeleteThey did turn out really well - I love them.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary.
These are great and share a positive message. BTW, I'm with you on the art teacher thing. I actually had a principal who did that to some of my students work during an observation!! Is that crazy? My other pet peeve is that my son's teacher writes his name on all of his work for him. I don't want her to retire, though, because she's a wonderful teacher outside of that... but maybe she'll read my comment here?? ha.
ReplyDeleteOh, I just LOVE this activity!!! They turned out absolutely adorable. Definitely going to have to try this with my daughter's Kinder class! Thank you so much for linking up to this week's Discover & Explore!
