Series of Unfortunate Events Party

My sister is here today sharing a fun lunch party she put together for her kids based on the A Series of Unfortunate Events books: 

The A on our summer list is "A Series of Unfortunate Events" party. We started the series last fall and finished book 13 a few weeks ago. We listened to them in the car with the rule that everyone must be in it when we are listening (minus my husband who doesn't really care and isn't in the car with us much anyway.) We are in the car together a lot. I guess the 5 minutes to school and other errands add up.

I made up a little newspaper article and taped it to a real paper. It was of course The Daily Punctilio, had the names in it wrong, and included a sketch of the Baudelaire children. I didn't tell the kids we were going to have our little party that day, instead I rolled up the newspaper and laid it on our front step, ran into the garage and rang the doorbell. Of course, they knew I did it, but they were surprised and Bryce even said I did an "excellent" job with it.

The newspaper article told them there was going to be a VFD meeting and that they were to come in their best disguises. While they were putting that on, I laid out a message for them to figure out. ("Don't be a cake sniffer!") I just wrote a message, changed it to a dingbat font and then made up a key.

For lunch, we had Meducoid Mycelium (The Grim Grotto, The Penultimate Peril, and The End,) Pasta Puttanesca  (The Bad Beginning,) and Cinnamon Hot Chocolate (The Carnivorous Carnival.)

After lunch, we made eye balls (a reoccurring symbol in all of the books.) We just made peanut butter balls and covered them with white chocolate. The chocolate on ours were all bumpy for reasons that I do not know or care.
