Magic Beans

The most amazing thing happened the other day.  We were reading our copy of Jack & the Beanstalk when I suddenly remembered seeing a packet of magic beans in our junk drawer.

Sure enough, there they were.  They looked like ordinary dried beans from our sensory bin, but we knew better.  We knew they were magic beans.  It said so right on the package! On the back of the envelope it said, "Bury these beans in your sandbox.  Give them some water.  If you are very patient, something might grow."

So we planted them in the sandbox...

and gave them some water...

and waited, some more patiently than others.

And sure enough, after nap time a beanstalk had grown!

Once we determined there wasn't a giant up there, we climbed the beanstalk to investigate.  There was a treasure chest!

Filled with chocolate gold coins, which the giant had thoughtfully packed on ice (since it was such a hot day) and labeled so there would be no fighting.

If you can get your hands on some magic beans, we highly recommend them - even if you have to trade your cow.

UPDATE:  I was on a weeding rampage in the backyard (I hate weeding) and I was walking by the sandbox. There were 4 or 5 big weeds growing along the edge (or so I thought). I yanked them out in a big handful. Then I saw the outer covering of one of our beans at the roots. I don't know why it was so surprising to find bean plants grown from beans, but I couldn't believe they had actually grown! In the sandbox. Without any TLC whatsoever.  I'm mad at myself for yanking them out before realizing what they were. But that's just between me and you. I didn't tell the kids what I did.
