Shape Leprechauns

My three year old son asked to do a project which almost never happens.  I didn't have anything prepared but I wasn't about to say no, so I had to pull something out of my, er, craft drawer (what'd you think I was going to say?)

I cut out different shapes to make a leprechaun.  I think they're pretty self explanatory so I won't bore you with the details.  Drew loved curling the paper around a pencil to make a beard.

He had the cutest little face on his leprechaun, but then he insisted on covering it with the beard.  I suggested he move the paper strips down one time and then I let him be.  It's his project, no matter how much I want to "fix" it.  And oh boy, did I want to.

My 2 year old made it about halfway through before deciding she'd rather draw a rainbow.

Here's how hers turned out.  Needless to say, I think it's adorable.

Drew decided that these were really pictures of Grandpa (because of the beard).  What his Grandpa actually has is a mustache, which might or might not explain why he insisted on putting the orange rectangles so high.

This was last minute so we didn't have a book to go with it but here's a cute St Patrick's Day book we've read that would go really well with this craft:

The Luckiest St. Patrick's Day Ever is a rhyming story about how the leprechauns celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  There's a parade, dancing, and music, followed by a feast with family and friends.

  1. What a cute St. Patrick's Day craft! I love that you left your son's as is - definitely see the temptation to "fix" it!
