Last year, I read a book to my fifth graders called My Heart Is Like a Zoo. The author compares his heart to all the animals in a zoo. It's cozy as a clam and chatty as a jay. But the very best part of this book is that all of the animals are made from heart shapes. The back cover gives directions for making your own lion from hearts but the illustrations are clear enough to make any of the animals. We made ours in Valentine colors.
I cut out the heart shapes beforehand since Drew really wanted to make the caterpillar. I knew our crafty attention span would not last through cutting out all those hearts, so he did the assembly.
I helped Lainey make the clam.
I couldn't resist - I also made the owl:
and the bunny:
Very cute! Just in time to make some Valentines for friends ;-)
